To set up Tricent's connection to your tenant, you need to complete four fairly simple steps:
1. Grant Tricent's seven apps the necessary permissions in your Microsoft Entra ID
2. Assign admin roles for the Tricent tool to users or groups in your organization
3. Ensure that Tricent has access to “Last activity” on your users
Below is how you do it.
Let's go.
1. Grant Tricent's seven apps the necessary permissions in your Microsoft Entra ID
These are the seven apps that you need to grant permissions in your Microsoft Entra ID (until October 2023 known as Azure AD):
- Tricent Portal
- Tricent Portal API
- Tricent Metadata Scanner - 1
- Tricent Metadata Scanner - 2
- Tricent Metadata Scanner - 3
- Tricent Metadata Scanner - 4
- Tricent Metadata Scanner - 5
1. To grant the permissions, simply access the below seven URLs in a browser one by one, first replacing <your-tenant-id> with your organization's Microsoft Entra tenant ID (here's how you find your Microsoft Entra tenant ID).

2. When you access the individual URL, you will be prompted to log in.
Do that with an account that has the role Global Administrator on your tenant.
3. Once logged in, you will be asked to grant permission for that app.
4. Click Accept.
5. The successfully granted permission will take you to a success page.
6. Repeat the steps for each of the remaining six apps.
2. Assign admin roles for the Tricent tool to users or groups in your organization
Now assign the Tricent tool Admin or Super Admin role to select users and/or groups in your organization. These users will be able to manage the Tricent tool once you are live on the solution. You can read about the Admin and Super Admin roles in Tricent right here.
1. Start by accessing your Microsoft Entra admin center using an account with the role Global Administrator.
2. Go to Applications -> Enterprise applications
3. Click the app Tricent Portal API. Please note that we are talking about the Tricent Portal API app, not the app named Tricent Portal.
3. Then go to Users and groups and click + Add user/group.
4. Start by clicking None Selected below Users and groups, search for the users or group(s), click them, and click Select.
5. Now click None Selected below Select a role, click either Admin or Super Admin, and then Select.
6. Finally, click Assign.
3. Ensure that Tricent has access to "Last activity” on your users
1. Using an account with the role Global Administrator, access your Microsoft 365 admin center.
2. Go to Settings in the left-hand menu, select Org settings and go to the Services tab. Scroll down and click Reports.
4. Remove the tick next to Display concealed user, group, and site names in all reports if it exists.
5. Click Save.
4. Provide us with your Microsoft Entra tenant ID, organization name, trusted domains, and contact details of system owner(s)
Using the welcome email you received from us, please reply to us with:
-
Your Microsoft Entra tenant ID - here's how you find it
-
The name of your organization - simply the name of your company or organization
-
Your trusted domains:
-
your fallback domain (the one ending with .onmicrosoft.com)
-
your primary email domain
-
any other domains that you want Tricent to consider trusted - you can always add more once you're live
-
-
The work phone and email address of the person or people who will be system owner of Tricent in your organization. Might be the same people that you have given admin rights in step 2, but you are free to name other colleagues.
Thanks.
Next step
Once you have sent us the above, we will start setting up our end of the connection and contact you when everything is ready.
